As you walk around Omonia square in Athens you can take a break for lunch at Ypovrihio. At number 102 of Aiolou street you will find an underground arcade. Going down the stairs you will see an old tavern with traditional café chairs, green hand-painted tables and pictures of the seabed decorating the walls.
Ypovrihio means submarine and as can you expect seafood is on the menu here. But that’s not all there is, as the owner Milen, who came from Bulgaria, has new tastes for you to try every day. From steaks and chicken, to traditional Greek and some Bulgarian dishes. Everything is fresh and well cooked. That’s why Ypovrihio has so many friends. Because here you don’t feel like a customer but more like you’re eating at your mom’s house. At least I do. And Milen’s family also eats here.
I almost forgot to mention that it’s very cheap so you can visit more than once to taste various dishes. After Ypovrihio you can continue your walk to Stani for a delicious dessert.
