Wow. With exquisite food, a beautiful historical building, and a great deal at lunchtime, En Ville in Barcelona is in my opinion a fantastic restaurant experience.
When you walk inside, coming in off Doctor Dou street, you step back in time into a beautiful old room with high ceilings, exposed beams and an overall picturesque charm. The staff are very professional and very helpful, which automatically sets the tone for a pleasant afternoon or evening.
However, it’s definitely not a case of all sizzle and no steak. The food here is absolutely superb in terms of flavour, not to mention how diverse and elegant the menu is. Each time I come here I end up trying something that is either totally new for me, or at least not something I would often go for, and to date I’ve always been smitten with everything they’ve put on a plate in front of me.
You’d think that for food this good in such a good environment you’d pay through the nose, and if you go in the evening for the à la carte, it can be quite steep. However, the trick to En Ville is the lunchtime menú del día, which is fantastic value. Between 13:00 and 16:00 you can grab a starter, main course and dessert for less than € 15 (cheaper on weekdays) although drinks are extra and there are some supplements for certain dishes, so in the end it’s usually around € 20 per person. But still, an absolute steal considering what’s on offer!
