Sincerely hope that you never, ever need this tip. However, it is important you know this.
Should you have a medical emergency when visiting the city don’t waste time asking passers-by, or hotel/hostel staff where to go: just get yourself, or the afflicted person, to Hospital Clínic. And, unless you absolutely need paramedic assistance, don’t call an ambulance — get a taxi, the driver will know where Clínic is and how best to get there.
Obviously, if at the beach and have an injury that needs attention, then go to Hospital del Mar on Passeig Maritím, the seafront between Barceloneta and Port Olimpic. For all other serious medical incidents, I strongly recommend Clínic.
At the main entrance, head up the steps and turn left: you’re looking for Urgéncies. Don’t go to the information desk on your left, continue past and take the first turning right — a sliding glass door will admit you to the waiting area.

You are in very good hands. You will be assessed and re-directed to a specialist ward for a more detailed diagnosis and treatment.
It’s open 24/7 and provides the best care.
They are light on bureaucracy regarding health insurance. If you do not have proof of eligibility for free treatment, they will ask for your home address and email and ask that you forward your social security or insurance details.
