I’m not one for big stadium gigs. Think the last big gig I attended was either Led Zeppelin at Earl’s Court or Frank Zappa at Wembley Arena, London, during the good ol’ 70s. I much prefer pub, theatre or club-sized venues like The Nashville in London where I experienced The Sex Pistols, The 101ers, John Dowie’s Big Girls Blouse, AC/DC and many other great bands for FREE!
Here at Jazzman you can experience cool jazz up close and very personal every Monday and Thursday night for FREE in the company of around 20 or 30 other aficionados.
This cosy, petite bar is a shrine to the jazz greats, its walls covered with portraits of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Billie Holliday, Chet Baker amid of host of others.
The gigs start at 22:00, but if you want to get a seat upstairs in the mezzanine you’ll need to arrive a half-hour or so before. While you wait for the band you’ll be entertained with some very cool music from the bar’s huge collection of vinyls and you can order a pretty good tequila, whisky, gin or rum cocktail.
If peckish then they have snacks such as empanadas and quiches. I’ve never tried the snacks so I can’t comment.
JazzMan is not so very far from the Sagrada Familia, just down the road from Can Josep’s and not so far from Bar Oller – so, if it’s Thursday you could have your evening sorted – Oller: beer; Josep’s: dinner, JazzMan: live music and cocktails.
