Somodó is certainly one of the very best value restaurants in the city, serving exquisite, painstakingly prepared dishes which amuse, amaze and delight.
It’s small, there are only 19 covers, so it is essential to book ahead for an evening meal. There are no à la carte dishes — only an evening € 35 menú comprising such dishes as : black risotto; smoked salmon with daikon (white radish); John Dory tempura served with dashi; langoustine with foie gras; a cheese based plate, a pre-dessert; a dessert, and a petit-four to finish. Eight items for just € 35!
Or, you could try the € 20 menú del día, which comprises: a tapa; three dishes, a dessert and coffee and includes wine and water, and IVA (VAT).
Chef Shojiro Ochi, who trained in Osaka, Japan, will visit your table and introduce the dishes. Wines are excellent and none too expensive. The food is fantastic – brave combinations and memorable flavours – contemporary Mediterranean cuisine prepared with a Japanese sensibility- MediterrAsian. Most of the ingredients are sourced from the Boqueria market, where Chef Ochi is well-known among the market traders.
If visiting during the festive season, you may be pleased to learn that they’re open on Xmas Eve, Xmas Day and New Year’s Eve, when these two expert cooks offer a very special menú for € 68.
