At home, on the other hand, people cook, and what is typical for this country is really nice and tasty well-balanced homemade food. Did you know Lebanese cuisine is considered one of the healthiest in the world? It contains a lot of vegetables, olive oil and legumes. When visiting this spot you meet the chef, usually taking care of and serving meat. He will assure you what is fresh and what dishes he has just prepared. I prefer his shish barak, which is small pastry filled with minced meat served with a yoghurt sauce and rice. Or his kibbeh, mmm — since I discovered Bioland I am not preparing kibbeh at home but getting it ready instead. He makes a fantastic pumpkin kibbeh filled with greens and nuts.
Bioland is a shop with 2 branches in Achrafieh: one is just a shop with takeaway/delivery. At the other one you can actually eat. You will find all sorts of organic fruits, vegetables, meat, legumes, spices (all local), but also other imported organic products. They do prepare a lunch menu for 17,500LBP (ca. $11.70) and it usually consists of the homemade Lebanese “tabkha”, which is the Arabic name for it.
