When the summer comes, people in Belgrade have the privilege that their parks, streets and city squares become movie theaters. In the last couple of years they have even become theaters.
The picture you see is from this year’s 9th edition of Filmstreet and the scenery is set for a show called Laura 2000.
In those 9 years, people from Belgrade have seen more than 250 movies at 50 different locations. The variety of movies is very big, so you can see a classic like Casablanca or a new blockbuster like The Revenant.
Everything started when some guys spontaneously closed one of the streets and decided to watch a movie. At that point, there were around 200 people watching.
Today, when there’s a famous movie playing, you can see around 2000 spectators. And it’s totally free of charge!
In the last couple of years, the repertoire has grown to include even some theater shows where you can see young and talented Serbian actors perform.
Filmstreet is a manifestation that I hope will last because it is a wonderful occasion for you to meet your friends, grab some snacks and drinks, and enjoy summer in Belgrade.
PS: Follow the FB page of Filmstreet so you can stay informed where the next movie or show will be.
