Mexican restaurants are very popular in Berlin, and although I appreciate the different interpretations of this cuisine, sometimes there’s nothing better than some authentic Mexican food as you find at Chaparro.
I always go for the tacos, but you can also choose another base, such as burritos, quesadillas or sandwiches. Then they fill your base with all kinds of good stuff: from juicy carnitas to beef barbacoa to vegetarian/vegan fillings, such as nopales (cactus leaves, my personal favorite!). At the table, you’ll find three different kind of salsas to garnish your dish. Watch out, one of them is pretty spicy (at least for my taste). To drink, you might go with one of Chaparro’s homemade aguas frescas, a margarita or try one of their mezcals.
Some points have to be written off for the lack of toilets, though. This is especially inconvenient since I still haven’t figured out how to eat my tacos without getting the salsa all over my hands…
Recently, Chaparro became part of the Kantini food market at Bikini Berlin. So, if Kreuzberg isn’t your area, you also got the chance to try their food in a fancier setting.
