Now in its fifth season of business, Emils Biergarten cum pizzeria is a neighborhood favorite of many locals in the Prenzlauer Berg/Pankow districts. The pizzeria attached, L’Antica Dogana, is actually a separate business, but the two work together in the summertime to bring everyone that harmonious combination of pizza and beer.
I love coming here with friends to hang out and enjoy a pizza after work. It’s also a great place to come and watch major football games, if that’s your bag and you’re okay with watching Germany win (again).
Emil’s offers a great alternative to people who want to try something away from the regular, more touristy beer gardens like Prater and the one at Mauerpark. Of course, not being super touristy doesn’t mean it’s less crowded. If you’re hungry and don’t want to wait ages for your pizza, the earlier you arrive the better. Otherwise anytime’s fine.
There are plenty of comfy spots to sit and there’s even a play area for miniature visitors to keep them occupied while their parents kick back.
My favorite time of day to come here is around dusk when the majority of the crowds have moved on and they switch on the fairy lights draped through the trees.
