Right next to the famous Berlin club Kater Blau, its founders built up an urban utopia. Call it a creative village or a community project – Holzmarkt is a little world of its own right by the Spree river.
This includes a hairdresser, a bakery, a wine shop, a kindergarten, a (rather pricey) restaurant, a tattoo studio, a co-working space, art studies, rehearsal rooms and probably many other things that I haven’t discovered yet. Just wander around and see for yourself.
Most of the time I simply have a drink with friends here, either at one of the terraces, among the creative and colorful decoration, or just at the shore of the Spree.
I especially like how different groups of people mix here: you will see tourists and locals, families with their children playing in the sand, hip Berliners from or on their way to the club… and exactly this, according to their website, was the vision of Holzmarkt’s founders: “to attract the people from Berlin and all over the world, bring them together and bring them joy and inspiration.”
