After I moved to Berlin, Monarch was one of the first places I went out at. They only put on a sign a few years ago; they didn’t use to have one. Even today, the shabby looking door to Monarch can easily be missed, so take the picture as a reference. Then just go upstairs, until you find the bouncer.

Monarch is great if you like to dance but want to avoid the annoying sides of clubbing in Berlin: Firstly, lines at Monarch usually aren’t very long. The longest I ever had to wait for was five minutes. Secondly, there is no “Berghain style” door. If you’re not extremely drunk or badly behaved, there will be no problem to get in. And you don’t need to wear all black leather either. Thirdly, the entrance is often less than half of what you’d pay elsewhere.

As you can imagine, these advantages make Monarch quite popular; it can get very full on weekends. On the flip side, this makes it very easy to meet some new people! However, if you’re not into crowded dancefloors, you might want to check their calendar for other kind of events, such as concerts or readings.
