Strandbad Wendenschloss – Bathing in (GDR) style

If you are looking for a little get-away not too far from Berlin’s city center, Köpenick and its charming beach Strandbad Wendenschloss at the river Dahme could be your spot. Past the picturesque old town of Köpenick (which has a long history of being independent of Berlin until it became its largest district in the 1920s) and behind a quite impressive collection of villas, you find yourself in front of a former GDR beach.

Recently turned hip with new owners, Strandbad Wendenschloss is a great mix of relaxed and special: When you are not swimming (in the somewhat challenging waves of the river), you can just lie down in the meadow, play some ping pong – or enjoy some nice vacation vibes at the restaurant. With sweet potato fries, Flammkuchen (a kind of very thin German-French pizza) and their delicious Apérol Spritz for a sundowner, the day at Wendenschloss goes by fast.
