Brasserie Lorraine is much more than just a restaurant to get a decent meal! For almost 40 years, people from the Lorraine neighborhood and beyond has been meeting in Brasserie Lorraine to enjoy each other’s company, make new friends, enjoy a concert or a lecture or play the infamous local card game Tichu for hours and hours.
Inside, all tables and chairs are made of wood, the warm light gives the big room a cosy mood, it almost feels like a living room. Outside, there’s a beautiful garden where I always feel like being far away from city life. Under old chestnut trees you can enjoy a menu a la carte or one of the daily specials.
Brasserie Lorraine mostly serves seasonal food from local farmers. It is not run by a single manager, but by the workers collective as a whole in which every voice counts the same and everybody gets the same salary. Upstairs, there’s also a room that can be rented for meetings or cultural events.
To me, Brasserie Lorraine really embodies the spirit of the Lorraine neighborhood which will hopefully keep existing for many more years, despite the gentrification that unfortunately has already killed some of its old vibe…
