“Raum&Zeit” (Space and Time) is a tiny open-air bar in a transformed shipping container. Its located next to an artificial concrete duck pond and is part of a remarkable park in the Bernese suburbia of Köniz.
Lately, the place has turned from an exclusive community center for the surrounding Liebefeld neighborhood (Liebefeld translates into “field of love” – isn’t that cute?) to a hip place for urban crowds to hang out, have a drink and cool down in a beach chair before heading back to the city as soon as the sun has set.
The youngest transformation of the bar was introduced by the new crew of the Piazza-Bar that runs the place since the 2019 season. The menu is still as small as the container-kitchen – there are a couple of tasty snacks and a lot of summery drinks available. The change in management did not go unnoticed since the crew is very well connected in the music (especially hip-hop) scene – therefore the ducks in the pond have witnessed a fair amount of legendary concerts going on in the past couple of summers.
Besides the bar there’s also quite a nice park. Once, the giant lawn belonged to a research institution that tried to find out how to drain more milk out of cows (so swiss…). In the past years, it was surrounded by interesting architecture and equipped with a playground, trees and different sculptures. A perfect place for a barefoot summer Sunday afternoon.
