ZAR café*bar is a tiny waterhole in the Mattenhof quarter. It has a super-relaxed neighborhood feel and a small terrace, where you can soak up the sun while you enjoy one of their cheese and deli plates with a delicious Swiss beer from microbreweries or sip a drink from their extensive but affordable drinks menu.

From time to time, the owners organize fun events such as card games, gigs, speed-dating, beer tastings… That’s why I make sure to have a look at their Facebook agenda once in a while.

Bonus: If you have a sweet tooth like me, you could hop on to the Gelateria di Berna. One of their branches is just next to ZAR. I have to confess that I love to round off my happy hour in summer at ZAR with some frozen goodness. The idyllic Cäcilienplatz is the perfect spot to watch the sunset and finish your ice cream.
