2 weeks ago our Lithuanian Spotters organized a weekend around the Vilnius Marathon thanks to a brilliant initiative by Amsterdam Spotter Martin! 3 heroes, Aneta (Riga), Martin (Amsterdam) & Jeremie (Berlin) – ran the full Vilnius marathon. The rest of the participants were either cheerleader, or ran the 10K.
Although it appears Spotters are a quite a bit more interested in drinking than running (on the Spotters weekend in Amsterdam we were 100 strong, while we were with 10 in Vilnius…) we had loads of fun!
The Vilnius Spotters had arranged our accommodation – a very nice room with 12 beds in the “boutique” Jamaika Hostel. Just Euro 12,= a night per person – highly recommended!
The Vilnius Spotters showed us around their beautiful city. It was my third time in Vilnius, and I was really pleasantly surprised by the increasing trendiness of the city. Lots of very cool bars, coffee places and local art shops have popped up all around town.
Crooked Nose (soon online!) is an übercool and über-minimal coffee shop. The first 3rd wave coffee place I’ve ever visited without an espresso machine… Just hand brewed coffees in all forms…
Some of the many other spots we visited:
- Keulė Rūke – Very popular and pulled pork sandwiches
- No Sugar – Good coffee needs no sugar
- The Republic of Uzupis – The “independent” republic within the republic…
The first evening we were invited for a foosball and home brewed beer party at our Spotter Sarunas’ and girlfriend new apartment. It was a very special evening!
Of course we had to see some “highlights”. We had a nice walk around the city, and saw it from high above on top of the famous Bell Tower.
Thank you so much to the Vilnius Spotters for organizing this awesome weekend, and showing us the most beautiful local spots in your wonderful city.
