Interview Niko Caignie (Antwerp Spotter)

nikocaignie

Today we have an interview with Niko Caignie, Spotter for our Antwerp Cityblog.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Niko Caignie. I’m and enthousiastic 31year old Antwerpian. I work as a Digital Producer in an Advertising agency. In my spare time I’m a passionate  photographer and blogger. I love to wander through life and the world capturing moments, people, situations and blog about them on my personal weblog. I’ve been doing this for about 10 years now. Why, I just like to share experiences, spots, … so everybody can have a chance to go out and explore.

I never leave home without my camera, always looking for a great subject to capture and blog on either my personal blog or the Spotted by Locals  site.

How do you like being a Spotter? Do you have a nice Spotters-story?
Well, being a spotter is just what I’ve been doing for the last ten years. Blogging on the spotted by locals site is just an extension to that with a different approach.

Why do you like Antwerp so much?
Why Antwerp? Well it’s just a fantastic city. I’ve become very fond of this city over the years I lived here. It has so many aspects and  fun places to explore and they just keep on coming. Although it’s  not big, it doesn’t even feel like a city anymore to me. And because it’s small you can easily switch from hip bars, to relax riverside walking, to cosy restaurants, … If there or  only a few stops in Antwerp you should defenitly visit the Cathedral, the Museum of Fine Arts (see this article. Just sit on the stairs and watch the crowd), and the Kammenstraat. And if you have more time… let the city guide you in its pace.

What do you know about Antwerp what no tourist will know?
What can I say… keep following me and my fellow bloggers on the Antwerp city blog and you’ll find out.

What is the most popular neighborhood to live in Antwerp at this moment?
Depends on what kind of person you are. If you like shopping you should definitely check out the Kammenstraat with a lot of cool shops, if you’re a cultural person your place to be is the old centre of the city, … And everywhere you are the bars and resto’s are only a few steps away. It’s got  a taste for everyone.

Can you describe a perfect day in your city?
The perfect day in Antwerp would be the day I win the lottery… just kidding! My perfect day is a combination of every aspect that Antwerp has to offer. A brunch here, coffee there, walking through the many streets, to satisfy my girlfriend we would stop at Siete (see this article) to do some shoe shopping, meeting friends on the stairs of the Museum of Fine Arts (see this article), … Feel free to join me in my wanderings if you’re in Antwerp.
