To my fellow gluten-free eaters, I have good news for you: it is possible to eat a quality, fulfilling Italian meal in the North End — and you don’t have to limit yourselves to just salad or risotto. There are a number of establishments that offer gluten-free options, but one of my favorites is Benevento’s, an affordable semi-casual joint that offers not only gluten-free pasta and pizza, but also garlic bread and bruschetta!

Like many restaurants in the North End, Benevento’s is an intimate space with a busy but friendly staff. High tops occupy the area by the large front windows, while a bar and additional tables fill the narrow space toward the back. All the pizzas and pasta dishes can be made gluten-free, so you’ll have no lack of things to try here. My Celiac friend and North End connoisseur always gets the Spukone pizza, which has sweet Italian sausage, ricotta cheese, and fresh basil. Order with a side of garlic bread and you’ve got a feast!

If you’re looking to explore the North End further, you’re in luck! Other restaurants here with gluten-free options include Al Dente (next door), Antico Forno, Bencotto, Lucca, Artu, Aria, Terramia, Nico, Strega, La Famiglia Giorgio’s, Modern Pastry, and more by the day! If you have a severe allergy, be sure to call ahead and scope out their understanding of cross contamination. Eat up!
