It’s that time of year again! The warm weather is finally here, and that means free fitness classes at various locations all throughout Boston. If you’ve been considering cancelling your gym membership, now is the time!
No matter what neighborhood you’re in, rest assured that you’ll be able to find some free classes close to you — from Dorchester, to Charlestown, to Jamaica Plain, to everything in between.
This summer, from June 4th to September 29th, the Boston Summer Fitness Series will offer over 30 free weekly classes throughout the city. One of my favorites is the Thursday night yoga on Boston Common. My recommendation is to get there early so you can be close to the front and hear the instructor; however, this class teaches pretty basic yoga, so it’s quite easy to follow the movement of the people in front of you. Sometimes they offer freebies here too — like granola bars, water bottles and sunglasses!
Another fitness series to check out is the Esplanade Association’s Healthy Fit and Fun series, running July 10th through September 6th. These classes are offered on the Esplanade — the stretch of land between Storrow Drive and the Charles River — and include group yoga, zumba, running, and bootcamp.
Norman B. Leventhal Park (also known as Post Office Square) in the Financial District also offers a comprehensive summer fitness series. Google the park and you can easily find their online calendar with all the class offerings! Go out and get moving!
