It seems that every couple months I hear of some new place opening up in East Boston that I absolutely have to try. A lot of these restaurants are appearing along the waterfront to accompany a number of new luxury buildings that have been popping up at somewhat of an alarming rate, but Craft Table and Bar is different. Located just a block from Santarpio’s – the iconic and popular pizza joint that seems to be the only Eastie landmark people are aware of aside from the airport – this new addition to the Eastie culinary scene fits nicely into the neighborhood.
The decor inside Craft Table and Bar is what I would call subtly nautical, with porthole mirrors and vintage style art depicting ships and harbors. A nice patio out back complete with distressed wood and string lights is sure to be my new favorite late-night summer hangout.
The menu is has your standard salads, flatbreads, and entrees – most notably an entree called “fried avocado” – which I would have already tried were it not for my allergies. Gluten-free items are marked on the menu, and the staff is very accommodating in checking for any other allergens like dairy and soy. I very much enjoyed the beet and butternut salad – which had a hefty portion of creamy burrata – and the shoestring fries were perfectly crisp and salty (though made in a shared fryer for the allergic folk). See you on the patio this summer!
