Equal Exchange Cafe – Fair trade coffee and treats

Anyone who’s ever spent some time in or around North Station knows that this area is mostly catered to serving the sports fans that swarm around the TD Garden for Bruins and Celtics games. As a starting point for several commuter rail lines, it also receives heavy traffic from commuters, as well as vehicle-lacking city dwellers like me who like to escape the big city on weekend trips up the coast or to other parts of Massachusetts. For this reason, there aren’t a lot places around North Station for sitting around and relaxing, unless you count pizza parlors and rowdy sports bars.

Luckily, Equal Exchange Cafe just next door to North Station and the TD Garden is one of the first places in the area that has attempted to fill this gap. An outpost of the Equal Exchange brand of fair trade coffee, tea, and chocolate, this cafe not only has delicious coffee and snacks, but also a great ethos that you can feel good about supporting.  All of the Equal Exchange products are fair trade, while the milk and dairy here are sourced from local independent farmers. Equal Exchange Cafe also sell pastries and light lunch offerings, which come from local independent businesses. There are often vegan and/or gluten free food options here too, which is a welcome addition to this neighborhood full of unhealthy on-the-go food establishments and Dunkin Donuts.  Stop by next time you’re headed out of the city!
