Harvard Square can be somewhat of a beast. From students, to tourists, to street performers, there’s a lot going on here at any given time. It can be a lot of fun, but it can also be quite overwhelming. There are many restaurants, venues, and attractions worth visiting in this area — and one of my favorites is Nubar in the Sheraton Commander Hotel.
Located at the northeast corner of Cambridge Common (adjacent to Harvard Yard), Nubar offers a relaxing respite from the busy hub that is Harvard Square. It’s the perfect place to go for a pre-theater dinner before a show at the nearby American Repertory Theater, a concert at the Sinclair, or a folk music session at Passim.
Most importantly — Nubar has an inclusive menu. Yes, vegan and gluten-free folks can eat here, and choose from more than just one option! I’d recommend the white corn risotto, which is both vegan and gluten free. It’s truly one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time. If you’re just at Nubar for a snack, try the meze plate (offered either vegan or gluten free); everyone in my party loved it!
The decor at Nubar is attractive but not particularly original. It has that typical “restaurant-in-a-hotel” vibe, but it’s truly much more than that. With great food, a relaxing atmosphere, and a location just a stone’s throw away from all the action, what more could you ask for?
