Sassafras is warm, cozy little vegan/veggie paradise nestled in the heart of Ball Square in Somerville. I would highly recommend making reservations ahead of time (they can be easily made on their website or over the phone) as this tiny place only has around 10 tables which, as you can imagine, tend to fill up pretty quickly. If you do find yourself waiting in line, sad and reservation-less, the host will often direct you to the spacious pub next door where you can grab a drink and play foosball before your table opens up.
Once you make it inside, you’ll be glad you waited. The menu is huge, and all the dishes I’ve tried to date are exceptional. I’d recommend starting with the vegan braised rib poutine (whaaaaat?) or the arancini. Their pizza menu is filled with weird, enticing combinations (baked potato pizza, anyone?), and all their “meat” entrees are impeccable. Whatever you order, I guarantee you’ll be as happy as a (imitation) clam!
