Though I’ve lived in New England my whole life, I’ve never been able to make it through the long dark winter without getting the mid-winter blues. Like many people, I tend to ward off my bad feelings with food, and Back Deck in Downtown Crossing is especially great for this.
With a grill-inspired menu and decor that aims to imitate the look of a real back deck, it’s easy to feel transported to a summertime backyard barbecue, even if you’re visiting in the dead of winter. Upon entering Back Deck, a plaid-adorned waiter will greet you and show you to your table on the deck — complete with outdoor patio-style furniture. A variety of eaters will find something appetizing here, including the gluten free folk! Back Deck makes it easy by offering a separate gluten free menu, complete with gluten free beers!
My favorite dish here is the Grilled Vegetables with Hummus and Tahini Sauce, which is as simple yet delicious as it sounds. I’ve heard great things about the burgers here, as well the signature Back Deck Lager. I even have a friend who comes here just for their side of cornbread with maple butter.
So if you’re suffering from the winter blues — or if you didn’t get invited to any barbecues this summer — Back Deck is the place to be! Go for brunch, go for dinner, but most of all — go for the escape!
