Named after the writer Jules Verne – at least I think – coffee house and restaurant Verne is a legend in their own right. They are well known and mysterious at the same time. Verne does not have a lot of social media covering and sometimes it is impossible to phone in and make a reservation for an evening with friends. Meanwhile, almost everyone who’s been here has fallen in love almost immediately and keeps coming back again and again.
The second piece of evidence of its contradictory nature is that is located right in the heart of the Old Town, but lots of times remains unnoticed, especially during the winter. During the summer it is not possible to overlook Verne’s huge and always full terrace. I like this place because it is authentic.
Sometimes you have to wait to get a beer – but it is delicious so I recommend it anyway. They serve great meals, which remind me of Sunday lunch in a typical Slovak family. With their retro, quirky, not-matching furniture, there is such a homey feel to this place. Also prices do not relate to the location – it’s pretty cheap.
