Chez Balzac – A bit of a French touch

I have lived in Paris for five years and there is one particular thing from there that I miss – the culture of going out early in the morning to grab a fresh croissant or a baguette from the nearest bakery and enjoying it for breakfast at home. I must have been lucky, because a French bakery and cafe called Chez Balzac has been open quite close to my house, and has now enabled me to carry on with this ritual.

It is not something for every day, as the prices are quite high. Yet, the quality of the pastries is excellent – comparable or even better than in Paris, so they’re really worth it! In order not to overpay, I recommend doing take-away; although their terrace is very nice, you will pay nearly twice the price billed in their bakery shop (for instance, 4 euros for a pain au chocolat and 3 euros for an espresso lungo).

On the other hand, Chez Balzac is a nice place to rest after a trip to the Slavin memorial, as it is located just on a foresty road leading there, or as well to the closeby forest Horsky park. So why not to treat yourself from time to time, especially after the Slavin hill climbing exee…
