Do you know the concept of Thursday Beers? I think it has become a classic across the business-employed population in Europe. You simply book your Thursday evenings for your group of colleagues and go straight from the office to the nearest bar. That is why I am writing about the Downtown Backpacker’s Hostel in Bratislava, more widely known as ‘The Hostel’. Don’t worry – it’s not like the one from the movie 😉
Our traditional choices are directed towards – of course – draft beers, and for those who do not drink – teas that the staff is keen to serve in beer cups if you like them big-sized 🙂 In the winter, fresh mint or ginger teas will warm you up, and in the summer, you can easily replace them with a large choice of lemonades to enjoy on their quiet hidden terrace in the courtyard.
Since after a long working day you tend to get hungry, there is also a choice of foods and snacks to keep your beer company, the most popular being the fried cheese, the schnitzel or other Slovak specialties such as the “bryndza” cheese dumplings.
The Hostel is very nicely located in the charming Panenska street, and is part of its traditional establishments for many years already, thus attracting a stable clientele, but also tourists accommodated on the higher floors.
