There are two places in Ružinov where locals go to relax on feet: the lake ‘Štrkovské jazero’ and the nearby Hotel Nivy. The lake and its surrounding area is the heart of Ružinov, the most liveable district of Bratislava.
Unfortunately, Štrkovské jazero is not a lake for swimming, rather for fishing. Nonetheless, many people come to sunbathe here during summer time. On warm days it is also possible to rent a little boat and scull around. In winter, when the water is frozen, the lake turns into one of the biggest natural surfaces for ice-skating in Bratislava. Moreover, the running path with its special surface is used 365 days a year. However, if you are not the running type, just walk around the lake as many people do.
If you prefer relaxing indoors, Hotel Nivy is just a 5 min walk from the lake. It has a mid-class wellness centre beloved by local people, mostly since the hotel owns one of the few and good swimming pools in the city. There is also another pool with a water attraction, as well as three whirlpools, however these are not too attractive, I must say. Entrance to the sauna area is conditioned by use of the swimming pool area. Once you enter, you can enjoy five kinds of saunas (aromatic herbs, salty, Turkish, Finnish and infra).
Have a nice walk or run around the lake, enjoy sunbathing on its bank or go for a sauna during any chilly evenings… Relaxation ensured :).
