Cultural space Nová Cvernovka is located in the former School of Chemistry. Its goal is to support and cultivate culture and creativity in Bratislava. Cvernovka is a name of the old factory which used to manufacture very high-quality threads. Nová means new in Slovak and it’s in the name because the space was forced to move to this building because the original one has been turned into a residential building. It was sad for the art community, but I think it made them stronger.
Nová Cvernovka has five floors on which so many different spaces are located and so many different interesting events are happening. From shops and stores of clothes and art on the ground floor to the old school print company in the basement, co-working space, a cinema hub, ateliers of artists and the gallery upstairs, the diversity is amazing. You can also drink in the bar or listen to a lecture and attend a music gig.
Nová Cvernovka is located in a huge building and that can be quite intimidating, but check it anyway -it is a space with an interesting history and an even more interesting future.
