If looking for some authentic souvenirs from Bratislava, you might want to wander beyond the main streets of Bratislava’s old center, and discover some hidden treasures there. One of them is the so-called “Shop in the Museum” on the small Biela street.
This hybrid between a shop and a museum lets you discover how shops looked at the beginning of the 20th century with its authentic wooden cupboards and shelves, and a historic cash register. When you enter, you feel immediately transported to the old times. The shop assistants play their role well somehow and just complete the overall atmosphere.
You have a choice between just looking around and admiring the museum part at the back which displays some more historic shop equipments (and this is for free), or you can spend some money to buy some typical cakes (Bratislavske rozky), old postcards or a bottle of local wine or shnapps.
What I found really nice is that the owners of the shop had extracts from their guestbook printed and hung on the wall. Good to know I’m not the only fan 🙂
