Prašná Bašta is one of the very few restaurants of Bratislava which still has a kind of avant-garde feeling. For years it was a meeting point of artists, writers, people who like art and literature, or they just like to talk about it, or they just like to talk :).
Its spirit is open enough, so everyone can find his/her place either inside within the thick walls of the old bastion of the old town (it’s where the name comes from,”Gunpowder Bastion”) or outside on the coziest terrace of Bratislava. The terrace of Prašná Bašta is in a closed yard, surrounded with trees and filled with good people and good atmosphere. Perfect place to hide!
What to eat here? The menu is rather Slovak kitchen oriented, which I am not the biggest fan of, but you can find lighter meals as well, such as a good salad or a fish steak. Coming back to the Slovak kitchen I have to admit, that fried cheese with chips and tartar sauce, which is one of the national and favorite meals of Slovaks is THE BEST right here at Prašná Bašta. This dish is rather heavy and in general I cannot move after consuming it, but at Bašta they serve the only digestible one, for those with sensitive stomachs :). If you wanna try it, this is the place to do so!
And finally: please try the Armenian salad. It is just yummy.
