In recent years, more and more design shops and concept stores have started to appear in Bratislava. If you want to discover some of the Slovak and Czech creative scene, head to the increasingly popular Urban Market – a grassroots project presenting the core of the Slovak creative scene. A great place to discover many new (and maybe still obscure) Slovak producers in one place. There’s a summer and a winter edition which both last usually over a weekend, but they also organise many in-between evens and take the market to the music festivals over the summer. The next edition will take place from 31 May to 2 June 2019 at the Faculty of Architecture.
You can find almost everything at the market – from flowery hair-bands to recycled clothes, hipster bike backpacks, high quality leather handbags, ceramic jewelery, vinyls, bookstores, sneakers and local fashion designers. And it has become much more than a market – there are concerts, screenings, talks or even workshops with creative minds. It’s the best spot for your Christmas shopping if you look for original, local or sustainable gifts, or just something out of the ordinary.
You can usually buy a three day pass which also includes the evening music events, or just show up on the day and buy a day ticket.
Check out their FB page for more detailed info on the brands and sellers for the Winter edition.
