I’m Italian and I’m very picky about ice creams – HD, B&J have nothing to do with the real creamy, tasty, fresh, huge and cheap ice creams you can find even in the smallest towns in Italy.
For an ice cream to be good, it has to be made with fresh ingredients and be creamy. If the portion is big and cheap, even better.
I have been in Brussels long enough to have tried all ice cream places and never been satisfied. They just never taste like home. And I’ve always asked myself why.
I don’t have an answer, but I kept looking till I found this place, right in the center of town.
The first time I headed there I didn’t stop: there was a queue of at least 15 people and I had no time. But this was a good sign. I went back and as I always do for new places I try out, I ordered 1 scoop of chocolate. In this case, dark chocolate from Sao Tome…that was already a good start: they know how to source special chocolate.
I paid my 2.20 euros (not cheap I must say), got it in a cone and well, I gave them a good score, let’s say 8 out of 10, not bad, eh?
Though, if you are uptown, check out Les Dodi, they get a 9.5!!
PS: disclaimer…it’s not the creaminess I like but eh, I’m not in Italy!
