This place is one of the most unpretentious eateries in town, but it’s one that I eat at most frequently. It’s a neighborhood self-service restaurant, and if you’re nearby, it’s going to be the best meal of the day.
Noi Doi (translated as “The two of us”) is run by a family, husband and wife. The walls are plastered with family photos as well as diplomas they’ve won at cooking competitions. He even made it on a Romanian magazine cover.
The food is fresh and the menu rotates daily with two soups/day and also around five second-course options with many salads to complete it.
Here in Romania we’re used to having a salad with our second course (tomatoes, cabbage, pickled peppers etc.) so make sure you try this combo. Even more, there are many options ranging from the Romanian traditional “mici” to hamburgers or shawarma.
The prices are incredible, you can get a full meal for € 5 (soup + second course), which means that you might encounter people from all walks of life; an aspect I personally love. And they also have a nice open air terrace during the summer.
I don’t know if they’ll be speaking English very well, but pointing to what you want should be enough.
It’s not a place you travel to eat to, but if you’re around, you’ll love it.
P.S. Best before 15:00 – 16:00 for fresh food.
