Cotroceni Neighborhood – Peace and quiet

The first thing that comes to mind when hearing this name is the presidential palace, which is located in the area. But there’s more to it – it’s one of the most charming residential neighborhoods in Bucharest, where you can smell the air of old little Paris…

Strolling down the streets in this coquettish area is on my top 5 list of blissful things to do when I’m on a date with my city. It’s especially gorgeous on mid-spring afternoons, when all the trees are in bloom, and lilac perfume invades the air. You don’t need to be an architecture fan to appreciate the beauty of the old inter-war houses lined up as witnesses of great times past, which make you have imaginary flashbacks of ballrooms, stylish evening gowns and waltz music in the general pervading quietness.

It’s not exactly downtown, but it’s not far either. If you’re thinking about taking a break and just inhaling deeply to feel the heart of Bucharest in your very own being, you might want to give this neighborhood a try. And don’t forget to be quiet and just let it all sink in – you’ll be amazed at the positive energy you’ll get in return…
