Macesz Bistro – Jewish bistro

I remember those magical Saturday mornings when I was 7 years old, I used to wake up at my grandma’s (who was actually a chef and a good one at that). She was already in the kitchen cooking lunch, I can still smell that beloved matzo ball soup aroma in the air… hmmm…

But nowadays, as a grown up, if I want to feel a piece of this nostalgia I have two choices: 1. to ask my mom to cook (of course this is the best option) 2. go out to a Jewish restaurant. In this case Macesz Huszár (situated in the Old Jewish district) would definitely be a good choice. It is not my grandma’s food, but it’s absolutely an homage: reinventing Jewish classics while keeping with the tradition of the dishes.

You will surely find great Hungarian wines here too. On the menu you can find the traditional dishes and every 2 weeks a renewed chef’s offer. In my opinion if you wish for some relaxed time, a fine lunch or dinner in a simple, cozy place, you should give it a try!
