This is the spot where I have lunch every day – it’s fast, high quality, affordable and last but not least, delicious.
Mangalica is the name of an ancient “hairy” breed of pig. Their mission is to bring it back to the Hungarian 21st century kitchen. Let’s make Mangalica great again!
The spot is located on the Klauzal market, one of the smallest in Budapest but with lovely atmosphere. It just re-opened and fortunately isn’t a crowded, noisy kind of market, but it’s more like the “local stuff”. I like to spend my time there to feel less homesick of country life, to get the feeling that the day is passing slowly, that time has almost stopped. Eating at the market is always special, even more so if your food has a story, like at Mangalica.
Apart from that, the main reason I come here often is that it’s not for tourists – the prices reflect this and you can get a 2-3 course meal for HUF 1290, which is ridiculously cheap for freshly made great lunch. The service is also quite friendly and helpful.
I like to grab my breakfast and eat my lunch at the market. Even if I do this while on a tight budget, I can still make sure that what I eat is fresh and fair.
