Going to the local market when visiting a new city is so much fun, right? That’s one of my favourite forms of entertainment, too. I love discovering foreign veggies and fruits, watching the authentic lifestyle and listening to the chattering and gossiping even though I don’t speak the actual language.
Personally, I am also a fan of toxin-free, organic, locally produced goods, that’s why for me MOM Bio Market is the promised land. Apart from the fact that you can absolutely trust in the origins of your shopping, this place is also similar to every market in Budapest, so you can eat roasted sausage, buy fresh milk and have a chat with your fave producer about the recent corn crop.
Pro tips:
Buy veggies at the Zsámboki Biokert’s tent! The British founder of this farm has done revolutionary work for organic agriculture in Hungary; their specialties are salad greens.
Find Hungarian mozzarella bufala at the shop of Virágoskút, and don’t miss taking a look at the Orthodox Jewish Cemetery in the neighbourhood!
Please note that the market is open only on Saturdays mornings!
