Cairo is famous for its staple dish, ful, made with well cooked fava beans. I’ve tried most ful restaurants, from classy to local. I prefer the local outdoor ful shops for many reasons—they are cheap, tasty and I can enjoy the fresh air and the crowd.
Aa’alat is one of my local restaurants, where the tables are on the street and where they serve delicious small dishes. At first you might think that this is not enough, but at the end you will leave satisfied & full.
I always eat iskndrany dish. It is ful topped with tomato, onions and hot peppers. Aa’alat has many other options and toppings like hard-boiled egg or the classic with salt, pepper & cilantro.
Aa’alat is also famous for its falafel or ta’amya; it’s super crunch & tasty. You can eat it in a dish or take it away in sandwiches.
Pleasure is not about being in expensive places but enjoying small things like a small hot dish of ful on the spot.
