Big Monster Toys – Quirky Chicago photo op

Even in a city with stunning architecture and famous landmarks around every corner, sometimes the best photo ops can be found in unexpected places. In the West Loop of Chicago, the Big Monster Toys office is just one of these places. The facade of the building features an over-sized door with a giant green monster peering through the window. The doorknob itself is about the size of a basketball and perfect for hanging onto.

The best part about the door is that even adults can jump up and grab the door knob, which makes you look like child. When I was walking by I noticed a group of tourists taking turns making funny stances in front of the door. I asked one of them to take a photo of me and of course they obliged. Everyone was laughing and having a great time releasing their inner child.

The West Loop area is a great place to shop, and especially dine, away from the real heart of downtown. I would suggest going to City Winery (check out the City Winery article) which is just a couple minutes’ walk away from the Big Monster Toys office. The flatbreads with a glass of wine are a great pairing. After you can get a great photo of the door at night when the monster is lit up.

This is a unique spot in Chicago that you won’t find anywhere else in the city, maybe even the world.
