Have you walked around downtown and caught a whiff of chocolate but have not been able to pinpoint the store it is coming from? No, it is not coming from the Starbucks on the corner or the Garrett’s popcorn shops or Ghirardelli.
Would you believe if I told you there is a chocolate factory right in the middle of Chicago city? Blommer’s Chocolate factory is located in the West Loop. Honestly, I had never heard of a factory located in a residential area, let alone a chocolate factory! When the wind is blowing, you can smell the chocolate in the far corners of the Loop. Luckily, I live so close to it that I just need to open the window for the free whiffs. I also love watching what I think are the sugar trucks line up and pump tons of sugar into the factory.
Sounds a bit Willy-Wonkaesque, right? Yes, except that they do not organize factory tours probably considering really stringent food safety regulations they ought to comply with. But no need to worry because you can visit the Blommer Chocolate store where you can buy a huge variety of chocolates, small and big bags or boxes for souvenirs or own consumption, or bulk chocolate and cocoa for your baking needs.
