On the corner of Roscoe and Ashland between the Lakeview and Roscoe Village neighborhoods is where you will find Cafe El Tapatio, one of my favorite Mexican restaurants on the North side of Chicago.
The atmosphere and food at this place make it fun for a date or get-together with friends. When I go with a group, we usually end up ordering a few pitchers of margaritas to share. Of course there is always the option to order other cocktails, beers and non-alcoholic drinks off the menu including horchata.
My favorite dish here is the crepas de espinacas, which translates to spinach crepes. The fresh spinach and Mexican cheese are wrapped in fresh tortillas smothered in the best house made chipotle cream sauce ever! I have tried many of the other dishes and appetizers of which I would recommend many of them, because I have never had a bad meal here.
I have written for spotted by locals for almost 5 years, this was the FIRST place I ever wrote about and is STILL one of my go-tos spots and a beloved place in the neighborhood. Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines and the staff at this restaurant truly serves up some authentic and wonderful food.
