Stepping into Carnivale feels like you are going to the Mad Hatter’s tea party in Alice in Wonderland. I have never seen a restaurant that has so many colours under one roof. It must have been a challenge to design this festive and at times over-the-top space spread over 35,000 square feet. There are so many different sections to explore that you will never get tired of going back to discover quirky details. Even the restrooms are designed to reflect the whimsical décor of the bar and restaurant!
The food consists of Latin American, Spanish and Caribbean fare and competes with the décor in terms of quirkiness. Lechon Asado (slow cooked pork shoulder) and Arrachera (wood grilled skirt steak with chimichurri) are my favourite dishes. Do try the whimsical cotton candy cocktail and the cotton candy dessert! The presentation alone is a treat for your eyes and the cotton candy takes me back to my childhood. The team also organizes events on a regular basis with live music or trapeze artists so check out their website for the ongoings.
You will forget that you are in Chicago when you are at Carnivale. It’s my favourite spot to escape the city madness.
