Did you know Argentinian gelato? I didn’t either until I stumbled upon Frio Gelato. Spoiler alert – it’s delicious.
Frio Gelato is a rather new storefront in Chicago, as the gelato shop is based in Evanston just north of the city. The shop is owned by two Argentinian cousins who wanted to bring the Argentinian gelato tradition to the United States.
For people with food allergies or who are health conscious, Frio Gelato is the place to be. All of their gelato is homemade, allergen-friendly, and gluten-free. It’s even made a nut-free facility.
When you’re here, check out the flavors with the Argentinian flag on the label. These flavors are made with the “milk cream” or “dulce de leche”. It’s imported directly from Argentina! They also have a malbec flavored gelato called Malbec con Frutos Rojos. Genius idea to combine wine and gelato.
Pro tips – you can pick two different flavors for any sized cup/cone if you are indecisive like me. The cups also look small, but they definitely fill it to the top with delicious gelato (see photo for evidence).
Italian gelato has some competition.
