I had never even heard of Kyrgyz cuisine, until a friend took me here! Kyrgyz food is a mixture of cuisines from Russia, China, Turkey, Afghanistan, India and more. Jibek Jolu is Chicago’s first and only Kyrgyz restaurant. The experience of being here is not like anywhere else in Chicago. The food and the ambiance really take you to another place. It’s a cross between Asian and European in regards to the decor, which makes sense since Jibek Jolu means “silk road” referencing the Chinese silk trade route that connected many different cultures in Asia.

I recommend starting with some of their uniquely flavored and fresh salads. Then move to some of their delectably, crave-worthy dumplings! And of course, I don’t think I could ever come here with out getting something with noodles, because they are like NONE other. These hand-pulled noodles are delicious and I can’t even put words to how good they are!

Desserts are fantastic, but of course as happens with me often times, there’s not enough room for anything more! Enjoy freshly brewed hot tea and small Oreshki Cookies – or take them to go!
