M. Henry has been a long-time breakfast and brunch go-to spot for Chicagoans. This quintessential cafe is located at the north-end of the Anderonville’s Clark Street Corridor serving up American comfort food with a twist and freshly baked pastries.
Breakfast patrons usually come from two different schools of thought: those that prefer sweet and those that swear by savory. As someone who leans savory, but can be swayed to the sweet side, this place offers the best of both worlds.
Their famous Fannie’s Killer Fried Egg Sandwich is lauded as one of the best breakfast sandwiches in Chicago, so clearly a fan favorite for many on team savory. You can’t go wrong with classics like their freshly baked quiches or fluffy omelettes with a side of breakfast potatoes with their own blend of spices, or meaty options like apple-maple chicken sausage and candied applewood bacon.
My temptation for sweet breakfast is fulfilled by their cinnamon roll french toast. Two great things about breakfast rolled into one dish, SIGN ME UP. Their French toast is made with house-baked brioche cinnamon rolls, layered with warm seasonal fruit, vanilla neufchâtel crème and topped with granola crust. So this decadent item may be too much for you, but you can get a half order on the side of most of their sweet dishes like this, so you can balance sweet and savory. Or you can just say YOLO and dessert for breakfast wins!
You can’t go wrong at this neighborhood gem.
