I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved the idea of tea time. Sitting in a fancy dining room, eating little finger foods and sipping on tea all feels very posh. Imagine my joy when my friend from the UK told me that the Palm Court offers official afternoon tea.
Palm Court is a dining area within the Drake Hotel, which is a legendary and historic hotel in the downtown area of Chicago. The ambiance is breathtaking as you sit among a water fountain, beautiful chandeliers, and towering flower arrangements. There’s even a live harpist in the afternoon. Talk about classy!!
Each seating is an hour and a half, and you are served a tea of your choice as well as a tower of pastries and sandwiches. When I came here with my mom who has a nut allergy, the staff was super helpful in ensuring she had her own plate of nut-free snacks.
Palm Court is one of the few places in Chicago where a dress code (smart casual) is enforced, so be sure to leave your Lululemon pants at home.
Pro tip – make a reservation in advance via OpenTable. It books up quickly!
