Chisinau Central Market is worth a visit if you want to catch one of those Soviet-style markets that will disappear one day because of the chaos, lack of design, no infrastructure, and no eating places.
Still, as a foodie, I love it for its flavors and diversity. Where else will you have the chance to find the best local fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, dairy and… people, all in the same place?
Located in the heart of Chisinau, between Armeneasca and Tighina streets, Chisinau Central Market is easy to reach on foot.
Take an eco-bag and dive through the local delights. Locals love foreigners. They will always try to impress by inviting you to taste their products: delicious grapes and apples, berries, vegetables from their gardens, nuts, jams and pickles.
Take a break at the dairy hall. Ask the vendors for a piece of local cottage cheese or linden honey.
Don’t forget to buy some local herbs for wintertime, try a piece of placinta (a kind of cheese pie) and accept a glass of homemade wine from a local farmer.
