In the neighborhood of Zülpicher Str, where the students and the young party people meet, there is a very cool bar where I’ve had some terrific evenings: The ‘Boogaloo’.
The guests coming to this place are very chilled as well: only a few students – the regular guests are in their 30s but also in the 40s. The décor is reminiscent of a beatclub of the 1970s: dark dim light, old lamps, matching paintings and a light effect on the wall, which has also fallen out of time.
I feel pretty comfy there…
In the background there is mainly beatmusic, funk & soul, jazz… just cool and chilled as I like it, and on weekends, there are also DJs behind the bar.
Then the place is so crowded that every spot is used up and when I go there with a group of friends, we can only just stand anywhere together in the middle of the room. Best near the bar, so the drinks are brought faster. When I go there just as a couple I try to get one of the plush seats. Anyway, everybody is so close together that I get into a conversation with bystanders occasionally – as it happens often in Cologne 🙂
All in all, the best conditions for a looooong evening in the ‘Boogaloo’.
