It is not always easy to find a pleasant spot for a coffee or a snack in German pedestrian zones and shopping areas. The city centre seems to be dominated by chains of stores and restaurants. But don't worry - if you are longing for a short break from shopping or sightseeing, Funkhaus is always a good idea. It is a café, bar and restaurant all in one and was so called due to its direct proximity to the WDR broadcasting studios.Â
The atmosphere is busy and metropolitan. Journalists, speakers, artists, business people, shoppers and tourists are constantly coming in and going out. The menu is wide-ranging from breakfast and a menu of the day, cakes, snacks up to a wide selection of wines and cocktails.Â
What I like most is the decoration - there are many details like murals, lamps and old black and white pictures from the 1950s and 1960s and the waiters are formally dressed. The bar is apparently not vintage, but fits perfectly with the rest of the interior and is nicely illuminated.
